It all began with an ad

Towards the end of June, my adviser had been notified of an opening for freelance writers at the Ann Arbor Family magazine. The ad posting didn't have a lot of requirements so she encouraged me to send in my resume and a few writing samples. Surprise, I got the job and have since written 10 articles ranging from business features to activity lists. I am so grateful for this experience and the opportunity to work for a local but well-known publication. Below you can find a few of my favorite articles.

I was extremely surprised when a former teacher of mine had mentioned me in her Instagram story after finding a list of COVID testing centers I had created. Additionally, a recent article about a local restaurant's patio fire was on the trending page the day after it was published. Working for the Ann Arbor Family magazine and their publications has helped me connect with the greater Ann Arbor community. While we do local features on The Emery/Enthymion, they are mostly school-based. As part of this job I've been able to talk to small business owners about their COVID struggles and I'm currently working on an article about what businesses do with their contact tracing information.
