Photojournalism
Photojournalism is the area in which I have the least amount of experience. I have taken photos and covered events but ultimately I continue to work to improve how I control lighting and angling as well as Photoshop and caption writing skills. Click on any photo for the caption or to enlarge.
Art Night 2020
In January, I took pictures at Huron High School's annual art night. Fellow editor Maya Kogulan also took pictures at this event. I did take a lot of pictures of the art but through my time as online editor-in-chief I realized that most viewers would rather see the people behind the art. I worked on providing the best angles and figuring how to negate the effects of florescent lighting.

Ultimately I really like these photos and I think I did well with capturing the emotions of people. What I regret is that I didn't get new information from the attendees. I was limited to what I already knew when creating captions so the captions are very basic and don't really add any information to accompany the picture. These photos were published on thehuronemery.com and in Issue 4 of the 2019-2020 Huron Emery.
Journalism students in D.C.
During our trip to D.C. for the National High school journalism conference, I was considered the unofficial photographer. This was my first time using a professional camera and working with Photoshop. For the photos to the right, I focused on capturing clear and sharp photos that featured faces. Most of these photos are from our sightseeing adventures but the photo of Chuck Todd was from his keynote presentation. This was my first time "competing" against other photographers and it was honestly very stressful but also rewarding.

Chuck Todd, the moderator of NBC’s Meet the Press, talked to the entire JEA/NHSJC conference about the reality of being a journalist.

These photos were edited by me and former staffer Nancy Shevtsova. Below are some miscellaneous photos from the D.C. trip. These photos were published on Thehuronemery.com and @thehuronemery on Instagram and Twitter.

Note: Ultimately I am trying to improve my photography skills as much as I can but with this school year and the ending to last school year, I have been somewhat limited. As my parents are "high-risk" individuals, I have chosen not to take photos at events or sports for fear of contracting or spreading covid.
